[dinifti] dicomnifti/fsl conflict

I've used dinifti on a ubuntu 7.10 machine and am trying to install it 
on ubuntu 8 (hardy: uname -a output below).  I already have the FSL 
package installed on my machine.  When I try to install 
dicomnifti_2.28.10-1_amd64.deb, I run into the following compatibility 
issue:

usr>sudo apt-get install dicomnifti
...snip
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  dicomnifti: Depends: libniftiio1 but it is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages

When I try to install libniftiio1 on it's own, apt-get wants to delete FSL:

usr>sudo apt-get install libniftiio1
...snip
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  fsl fslview libnifti1 nifti-bin
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  libniftiio1

I use FSL and don't want it removed... can anyone think of a way I can 
install dicomnifti and not remove FSL?  I tried compiling dicomnifti 
from source but again ran into conflicts.

P.S. uname -a output is: Linux localhost 2.6.24-17-generic #1 SMP Thu
